Chris Fernandez
412 Squash Coach
Chris Fernandez joined the 412 Squash team as a coach in the Fall of 2024. Chris also serves as an assistant squash coach for both the men's and women's squash teams at Columbia University.
After growing up in New York City, Chris attended the Canterbury School in Connecticut. He was then recruited as a two-sport athlete in squash and baseball to St. Lawrence University. As a four-year starter and team captain, Chris helped the St. Lawrence squash team improve their national ranking by finishing three times in the Top 10. St. Lawrence rose to its highest historical ranking of No. 2 after making the finals of the 2015 CSA Team Championships.
Chris earned his degree at St. Lawrence with a major in performing and communication arts and a minor in sports studies. After college, Fernandez went on to represent the Dominican Republic as the No. 1 player at two Pan American Squash Championships.
After St. Lawrence, Chris returned to New York as the Director of Squash at CitySquash where he mentored over 120 youth athletes through squash. After 3 years, Chris became the youngest Head Squash coach in the CSA when he was named Head Squash coach at Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA) in 2018 and then for Chatham University (Pittsburgh, PA) in 2021. Chris also served as the head coach of the women’s club team at Fordham University in New York.
Chris is a board member for SquashWise, an urban program in Baltimore. He has also previously served as a committee member for the Squash and Education Alliance. Chris holds a Level 1 Coaching Certification.
